Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Swedish midfielder Armin Gigovic though if there is one man who isn’t surprised by such speculation, it is Helsingborg’s manager Olof Mellberg.

As the former Aston Villa captain points out in conversation with Fotboll Direkt, the highly-rated youngster has been an ever-present in the gossip columns ever since he took over at the Allsvenskan outfit last year.

Though with Wolves just one of a host of clubs all over Europe keen to snap up Gigovic when the transfer window opens this summer, now could be the time when one of the most exciting talents in Scandinavia finally heads to a major European league.

“There have been rumors of the sale of Gigovic since I came to HIF,” says Mellberg, a Villa legend who spent seven years in the Midlands between 2001 and 2008, before pointing out that he hopes to still have Gigovic at his disposal for a while longer.

“As far as I know, there is nothing concrete to decide on right now. I expect to keep him.”

Wolves have made a habit of signing promising youngsters of late, raiding the likes of Bayern Munich, Lazio and PSV Eindhoven over the last 12 months.

And Gigovic should be intrigued by the fact that Nuno Espirito Santo, the Wolves head coach, has handed out first-team debuts like they are going out of fashion this season with Oskar Buur, Owen Otasowie, Chem Campbell and more featuring in old gold for the first time.

Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Gigovic admitted last month that he was flattered by the interest that had come his way.
