Some Liverpool fans on Twitter seem resigned to the idea that Gini Wijnaldum will be leaving in the summer of 2021.
The Premier League champions have so far failed to tie him down to a new deal at Anfield.
Wijnaldum is out of contract at Liverpool in June and Paul Joyce of The Times reported that he was ‘likely’ to be leaving due to the impasse in negotiations.
The former Newcastle United midfielder joined the club in 2016 and has played a huge role in Jurgen Klopp leading the team to a Premier League and Champions League title.
If and when he leaves, there’ll be a lot of sad Liverpool fans here’s how some of them are reacting to Joyce’s update on the situation:
Wijnaldum clearly hasn’t ruled out staying at Liverpool.
We know this because he’s only 30 and a lot of clubs around Europe would be delighted to snap him up on a free transfer.
And they could have last month because the player was free to sign for any foreign club and the fact that he hasn’t could and should give Liverpool some hope of getting a deal done.
