Some Aston Villa supporters are taking to Twitter to react over hearing Arsenal want midfielder Douglas Luiz.
According to ESPN, the Aston Villa midfielder is on Arsenal’s radar.
French journalist Julien Laurens has claimed that the Gunners are interested in signing a defensive midfielder in January.
And with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta being familiar with Luiz from his time at Manchester City, a transfer is plausible.
The Brazil international joined Aston Villa in a £15 million deal from City during the summer of 2019.
And here’s how some Villans reacted to the prospect of him joining Arsenal:
Possible?
Well anything is possible but, despite Arteta’s history at Eastlands, no a transfer isn’t likely.
At 23, Luiz has a bright future in English football and he’d cost the Emirates Stadium outfit quite a lot of coin, particularly in January.
Thing is, Arsenal don’t really need somebody of Luiz’s ilk.
Arteta already has Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey and the truth is, the Aston Villa midfielder wouldn’t play regularly ahead of either.
And for that reason, a big-money move simply doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for the Gunners.
Arsenal definitely need reinforcements for January, particularly a striker, but bringing in Luiz just doesn’t add up unfortunately.
Besides, playing under an iconic midfielder like Steven Gerrard, there’s plenty that the South American will learn at Aston Villa yet.
