Jose Mourinho has insisted to Football London that Pierre Emile Hojbjerg will be fit to play for Tottenham Hotspur against Marine in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Hojbjerg suffered a nasty cut to his leg last night, after being on the receiving end of a fierce tackle from Josh Da Silva.
The Brentford player did not intentionally mean to hurt the Tottenham midfielder, but he was still shown a red card for the tackle.
Hojbjerg was clearly furious at the time, as he stormed off the pitch.
But Mourinho insists that the Dane will be fine, and he did not even want to come off last night.
“It was for sure a bad tackle because he is bleeding a lot and the shin pad is broken. That is football,” Mourinho said.
“Dasilva is a young guy and a good player so in the heat of the game there is nothing to be critical of.
“Mike Dean made the decision on VAR so everything is fine and correct.
“Pierre has a big cut but he didn’t even want me to play Tanganga in the last five minutes so I believe he can be OK for the weekend.”
Whether Hojbjerg will be risked at the weekend, despite being fit, remains to be seen.
Tottenham are likely to make a number of changes ahead of their tie against Marine, where they will be heavy favourites to win.
Mourinho has already stated that he will name a strong line-up for the fixture, but it seems likely that a number of key Spurs players will be rested, and Hojbjerg may be one who drops to the bench on Sunday.
