What a day it was for Everton and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Toffees striker scored a hat-trick this afternoon as Carlo Ancelotti’s side thumped 10-man West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park.
Even on a day when new signing James Rodriguez scored a wonder goal – his first for Everton – and bagged a wonderful assist, it wasn’t enough to take the shine off Calvert-Lewin.
The 23-year-old, a £1.5 million signing in 2016, cancelled out Grady Diangana’s opener on 32 minutes, before scoring two more in a four-minute period midway through the second half.
The former Sheffield United star, who came off on 71 minutes for Alex Iwobi, was arguably Everton’s most improved player last season when Ancelotti took the reins, finishing the campaign with 13 Premier League goals.
With four already, he could decimate that total this time around, and here’s how Yannick Bolasie reacted to his team-mate’s heroics on Twitter during the game.
Bolasie was at the game today but wasn’t involved in any capacity.
In fact, the former Crystal Palace winger was also omitted from the squad for the midweek win over Salford City in the League Cup, indicating that he isn’t part of Ancelotti’s plans right now.
But the fact he made the trip to Goodison today, in the knowledge he wouldn’t be playing, suggests that he still hopes to play a role eventually and if nothing else, his attitude is top notch for now.
