Jamie O’Hara has told his following on Twitter that Tottenham defender Cristian Romero winds him up, after Spurs suffered a FA Cup shock exit to Championship side Middlesbrough on Tuesday night at the Riverside.
In front of a sell-out Middlesbrough crowd, Chris Wilder’s men gave it as good as they got against Antonio Conte’s side. Eventually, it was substitute Josh Coburn that scored the only goal, in second-half injury time.
Coming off the bench, he worked his way into the box before unleashing an absolute rocket of a shot into the top corner of Hugo Lloris’ goal. It saw Spurs continue to show inconsistency, after a row of win, loss, win, loss.
Big wins against Manchester City and Leeds have been inter-seeded by defeat to Burnley and now Boro. O’Hara singled out one Spurs player for criticism on Tuesday night, taking aim at summer signing Romero.
O’Hara on Romero: Tottenham star has plenty to learn, from set-pieces
So far, the Argentina international and Copa America winner has shown he has excellent on the ball, has a bit of pace, an aggression that fans love, and can certainly defend. What he does need to improve, is his ability in the air.
It has often been seen, this season, that players have got a run on Romero – or have come across him and it is too late for the defender to react. Still young, Romero is far from his best – but this is a big area he must improve.
In English football, at any level, if you are somewhat weak in the air – or when it comes to marking your man from a set-piece, you will be found out. Something for Conte to work on, on the training ground.
