Chris Sutton told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport that he doesn’t think Tottenham forward Gareth Bale is ‘world-class’.

It was suggested by his fellow pundit Robbie Savage, who felt that his own countryman put on a ‘world-class’ display during Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

After scoring a brace against Burnley, the Real Madrid man was at it again over the weekend.

But Sutton wasn’t having any of the talk that Bale is ‘world-class’ because he feels the left-footed technician is now past that.

“Oh, wow, Gareth Bale scoring from three yards against Crystal Palace and then getting subbed,” said Sutton. “I mean that was hardly world-class.

“Are we going to have this petty argument every week? He has been world-class in the past but is he and has he done enough this season? I don’t think so.

“But can he get Spurs a Champions League place?”

If Bale continues in this form then there’s no reason as to why Spurs shouldn’t be dreaming of securing a top-four finish at the end of the campaign.

Another way Champions League football can be achieved is by the North London outfit winning the Europa League and Bale has history when it comes to European competitions, so that may just fall into Tottenham’s favour also.
