Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that Leeds have to ‘strengthen in January’ after being told about injuries to Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips, on talkSPORT.
It’s news that the Leeds fans didn’t want to hear, but it seems as though Phillips is facing a long spell out, whilst Bamford has seemingly injured himself again.
Bamford only returned to action on Sunday when he came off the bench to help Leeds secure a 2-2 draw against Brentford.
It was his stoppage-time goal that sent his teammates, his manager and the Elland Road faithful wild.
But it seems as though the England striker injured himself during the celebrations, with added news that Phillips is out for two months, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Given the small squad Marcelo Bielsa uses, this is just the last thing the Leeds fans wanted to hear.
Agbonlahor was surprised by what he was told, as he shared what they need to do to sort the situation out.
“Oh, wow,” said Agbonlahor. “We have said this a couple of months ago about some of them celebrations, especially the sliding on the knees. You are in danger of doing your knee ligaments.
“But when you are in that moment. You don’t think, do you? You just celebrate. It’s a bit of bad luck for him.
“I think with Leeds, they need to strengthen in January. I’m not sure if they have the funds available.
“But you have teams like Newcastle that are going to strengthen. Other teams are going to strengthen. You hear that Leeds don’t have the money. They need to invest with the injuries they have got. Bamford injured again, Phillips out for a while and they can’t just rely on Raphinha.

The question that will remain is, will Bielsa spend the money to bring in the players?
This isn’t a case of the Whites not having the money to splash, but Bielsa’s stubbornness not to expand his squad.
It’s what makes Bielsa unique, highly-regarded, but also frustrating from the point of the Leeds faithful.
If Leeds do search for those players, then another defensive-minded midfielder, creative player and striker, at a bare minimum, will be needed.
