Arsenal subjected Tottenham Hotspur to a first-half mauling at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Spurs went into the game on the back of successive 3-0 defeats by Crystal and Chelsea respectively.
And that was the scoreline by half time today as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal blew Tottenham away during the first 45 minutes.
Emile Smith Rowe passed past Hugo Lloris after only 12 minutes, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Sako both beat the French goalkeeper before the break, too.
Shortly after Saka made it 3-0 with 10 minutes left in the half, television cameras panned to a number of travelling fans who left the stands.
And Andy Townsend has said during his co-commentary that he really hopes the supporters were only leaving the stands for an early half-time break, not the stadium.
He said during commentary on Optus Sport: “Oh they can’t be! Maybe that’s just [getting] a cup of tea or something, just to steady them. I hope it is.”
Not worth watching
The good news for Tottenham is that the onslaught did stop after the break.
Arsenal didn’t really threaten a fourth in the second half and Son Heung-min pulled one back for Spurs in the final 10 minutes for what was only a consolation.
It remains to be seen if those supporters in question actually left the Emirates or not, but we do know that barring loyalty, there wasn’t much worth watching from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who have now shipped nine goals in their last Premier League games.
