Liverpool fans have been left less than pleased with the news that Anthony Taylor will be refereeing their match against Leeds United on Monday evening.

Liverpool are set to take on Leeds in the final game on the weekend, and the importance of the game has just increased greatly.

With the Reds now out of the Champions League their sole hopes of playing in next season’s competition rest on them making it into the top four.

With Liverpool already playing catch-up they can ill afford any slip-ups, but beating Leeds will be a huge challenge.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side proved what a threat they are last weekend, as they beat Manchester City with just 10 men.

And it’s fair to say news that Taylor will be officiating Monday’s game has just reduced Liverpool supporters’ confidence even further.

Taylor, who is Manchester born, has had a turbulent relationship with Liverpool fans.

John Aldridge wrote in the Liverpool Echo in 2019 that he didn’t think that Taylor should ever be allowed to referee a Liverpool game again, after a series of decision which have gone against them.

Reds fans will now have to hope that it is their play and not the officials that take centre stage on Monday.
