Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Premier League announced that Mike Dean would oversee the clash with Brentford.

What’s the story?

Well, the Newcastle supporters are very frustrated by this news.

It will be the third time Dean has officiated a game involving the Magpies this season, having been in charge for the 1-1 draw against Leeds, and the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Darren England will be on VAR duty, assisted by Derek Eaton.

Eddie Smart and Mark Scholes will run the line, while Andy Madley has been selected as fourth official.

So, why are the Newcastle fans upset by this news? Well, you may remember the aforementioned 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, in which Dean made a few strange decisions.

Firstly, Isaac Hayden was down with a head injury – playing everybody onside – when Diogo Jota scored Liverpool’s equaliser, but the 53-year-old failed to stop the game and allowed the goal to stand.

Then, Dean was seen running across Martin Dubravka’s line of vision just before Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a long-range screamer.

In fairness, it was a tremendous strike, one which Dubravka would’ve struggled to save anyway – however, Dean certainly made it more difficult.

Newcastle can see how far they’ve come against Brentford

As you will know, Eddie Howe’s first game in charge was against Brentford, and it was a chaotic 3-3 draw at St James’ Park.

Now, three months on from that entertaining clash, the Toon Army will be able to see just how far their side have come under Howe.

In our view, the Magpies have come a long way since that game.

The additions of Dan Burn and Matt Targett at the back have made them look far more solid, as has the arrival of Kieran Trippier, who will sadly miss the game with a broken foot.

Nevertheless, we feel Newcastle should have enough in the tank to beat the Bees on their own territory.

For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about Dean…
