Arsenal are finally being linked to a striker.
According to The Telegraph, the Gunners are keen on signing out-of-favour Chelsea hitman Tammy Abraham.
For most of the summer, Arsenal have been linked with either defenders and defence-minded midfielders.
But considering that the North Londoners’ problem last season was scoring goals, not conceding them, you could argue that Mikel Arteta – who has already signed a left-back – would do well to bolster his forward line too.
And it seems like one target is Abraham, who does look set to leave Stamford Bridge after struggling in a big way since Thomas Tuchel took the reins.
Unspectacular
Abraham’s goalscoring stats are nothing spectacular, netting 23 goals in 89 Premier League games.
But remember, he’s still only 23 and any striker who could worry John Terry and Gary Cahill probably has a bit about him.
Abraham had a stint with Aston Villa a couple of years ago and here’s what Terry – who coached the player at Bodymoor Heath after playing with him in West London – said about his old teammate.
He told Aston Villa’s website in 2019: “I know him very well having played with him at Chelsea. He’s been incredible here. He was the Academy player that when coming over to train with the first team, me and Gary Cahill used to think, ‘oh no, here we go!’
“As one of the older ones in the group, I just wanted a nice easy day against a middle-aged striker! Tammy always posed a big threat and I knew he’d go on and do well.”
The iconic Chelsea defender is also on record as saying that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the one player who he feared the most on the field.
And although Abraham has a bit more to do before he can emulate the Frenchman – just a bit – the fact that Terry dreaded coming up against him is training is perhaps indicative that he could, like Henry, be something of a livewire for the North Londoners.
