Liverpool’s biggest game of the season comes at home to Manchester City next weekend.
The Reds and Pep Guardiola’s side have been sharing title among themselves every year since 2017 and although Chelsea are certainly in the running this time around, Anfield or the Etihad Staidum is where the Premier League trophy could be going again come May.
But Liverpool have been rocked by the news that Thiago Alcantara won’t be available.
The Spain international is injured for Jurgen Klopp right now with a calf injury and the German coach confirmed that he won’t be available until after the next international break in October, which also rules him out of a Champions League clash with Porto next week.
On his day, Thiago is a brilliant player for Liverpool and one who can really make things happen from midfield.
Here’s how fans of the Merseyside club are reacting to news that he’ll miss the visit of City.
Blow
It’s such a big blow and especially because Naby Keita is likely to also miss the game.
With Harvey Elliott already out, the midfield options are dwindling for Klopp and time will tell who he chooses to use alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho against Guardiola’s troops.
Liverpool could have signed a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum during the summer but chose not to.
And it remains to be seen if that was a dreadful gamble by Klopp and Michael Edwards.
So far, it’s not looking like a great decision.
