Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are worried about Michael Edwards joining Newcastle United.
It has been reported by The Northern Echo that newly-appointed Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wanted the Reds’ director of football at St James’s Park.
Edwards is leaving Liverpool when his contract expires next summer and therefore an Anfield exit is inevitable.
But some fans of the Merseyside club aren’t keen on the idea of Newcastle getting him.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
Could this happen?
In a word, yes.
Newcastle could genuinely hire the Liverpool director.
That’s because he and Howe are both friends and have been since the early part of the century, when they were at Portsmouth.
And it’s probably no coincidence that just when Howe is unveiled at the St James’s Park club, Edwards confirmed his 2022 exit from Liverpool.
If it does materialise, what a coup for the Magpies.
Edwards has overseen so many stunning pieces of transfer business for the Premier League giants.
Whether it’s incomings or outgoings, the Reds invariably succeed in getting brilliant bargains and that comes down to Edwards’s expertise in this field.
Liverpool have named Julian Ward as his successor but even Jurgen Klopp himself won’t or can’t deny that Edwards will be a massive miss.
