Arsenal chiefs Mikel Arteta and Edu may just have to reconsider their transfer stance, if Alexandre Lacazette continues his excellent form.
Lacazette is fully expected to be replaced this summer, with Football London suggesting that Arsenal are willing to cash in on him.
The Frenchman has just under 18 months left on his current deal, which means Arsenal are running out of time if they want to receive some compensation for the 29-year-old.
But with Lacazette playing such a key role in recent weeks, Arteta must be having second thoughts about letting him leave.
Of course, Arsenal won’t want to have Lacazette tied down to the point where he is past his peak – as they have previously done with other players.
However, the Gunners would be hard pushed to find a replacement of equal quality in their budget, if he keeps up his recent standards.
No Arsenal player has managed more goals and assists than Alex Lacazette this season, which rather sums up his importance to the side.
Lacazette was influential for Arsenal against West Ham United yesterday, after being given a central striking role.
His ability to hold the play up was key, as he often linked well with his teammates.
Martin Odegaard already seems to have struck up a good partnership with Lacazette, who is completely outshining Aubameyang right now.
His goal was fine reward for what was a brilliant display, and means he now has hit the back of the net three times in his last five outings.
All of a sudden Arsenal’s decision to replace him may be one which has to rapidly be reconsidered, as it is looking more and more of a risk.
And if Arsenal do let him go, while he is in such great form, then they could be making a major mistake, which really weakens their attack.
