Kevin de Bruyne reminded English football of his brilliance this afternoon with a stunning goal for Manchester City.
The Belgium international opened the scoring in Manchester City’s visit of Chelsea at Eastlands.
De Bruyne, who was on Chelsea’s books once upon a time, held off a challenge from N’golo Kante and galloped toward goal, before curling beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga from outside the penalty box.
The Spaniard had no chance of keeping out the Sky Blues midfielder.
Here’s what Jeff Stelling said about the Manchester City sensation on Sky Sports: “Oh my goodness me! You give Kevin De Bruyne an inch and he takes a bloomin’ mile.”
This was the former Wolfsburg star’s sixth Premier League goal in what’s been a difficult season for De Bruyne.
He has missed a chunk of Manchester City’s season due to injury but, as he proved today, he is a massive player for Pep Guardiola.
Title awaits?
Guardiola’s outfit are now 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League standings.
City are 14 points clear of third-placed Liverpool but, even though the Reds have two matches in hand, catching this outfit is an enormous challenge.
Victory would’ve given Chelsea a seven-point deficit to claw back but, at this point, it looks certainly like the champions will be defending their crown at a canter.
