Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Adidas has released a new third kit.
What’s the story?
Well, despite the fact we’re three games into the Premier League season, Leeds have just announced a new kit.
The lilac strip, modelled by Kalvin Phillips, Robin Koch and Illan Meslier in the announcement video, is a very different kit for Leeds.
We can’t recall the Yorkshire-based outfit having a lilac kit in recent times, if at all in their entire history.
It’s certainly a breathe of fresh air, and we think it looks quite nice, if not exactly traditional.
However, not every Leeds fan on Twitter agrees with us.
Some supporters below seem to love it, although others seem to hate it – one fan even described it as the worst kit Leeds have ever had.
No yellow kit for Leeds?
It’s always strange to see clubs avoid using a traditional colour closely associated with their history when it comes to new kits.
Leeds have nearly always had a yellow away kit, and it’s even in the club crest alongside white and blue.
In that respect, why have Adidas decided to go for lilac?
Of course, you might argue that there’s nothing wrong with throwing in a random colour or two every now and again.
However, the traditionalist in us disagrees.
In our view, each kit should be a traditional colour each season, and Adidas or another brand can then experiment with a creative fourth kit.
