Liverpool fans have not reacted well to reports that the club view giving Mohamed Salah a £300,000-a-week contract a risk.

Salah still waiting…

The Daily Mirror reported late last night that Liverpool’s owners were reticent to hand out such a deal to a player, who is now considered to be reaching the ‘veteran’ stage of his career.

Salah’s contract at Liverpool has become the subject of sharp focus in recent times, given his wonderful form.

The Egyptian has been the stand out star in the Premier League this term and there are widening suggestions that he may actually be the very best player in world football right now.

However, Salah has under two years left on his Liverpool contract and there are growing concerns around Anfield that a new deal may not be agreed.

Liverpool fans feel that Salah has done enough to warrant a huge pay rise.

But it seems that the owners are more reluctant to hand out a big money contract to their main goalscorer.

And Liverpool fans certainly were not happy after the latest update on the situation, which dropped late last night.

A cause for concern?

There is no need to panic right now for Liverpool, but the longer this situation drags on, the more concern will grow around Anfield.

Salah has certainly earned the right to a pay rise, given his consistent excellence for the team.

And, although Liverpool’s hesitancy over paying big money for players who may be in the twilight of their career is understandable, surely an exception needs to be made here.

There are no signs of Salah slowing down any time soon, and he is clearly in wonderful physical condition.

Given his importance to the side, Salah penning a new contract would be a major boost, and would end any distractions which may emerge as Liverpool challenge for the title again this term.
