Will Darwin Nunez start for Liverpool this weekend?

Well, that’s the big question but if his Community Shield display was anything to go by, very possibly.

Liverpool kick off their Premier League campaign with a visit to Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Nunez is officially the Reds’ most expensive player of all time following an £85 million summer transfer from Benfica earlier in the summer transfer window.

And he showed what he can do with a debut goal against Manchester City this past weekend, as Jurgen Klopp’s side won 3-1.

It was the Uruguay international who put the finishing touches on an excellent victory and Darren Bent has admitted to talkSPORT that he couldn’t believe how quick the South American attacker is.

He said: “When he brought on Nunez, oh my goodness, that player, what a guy! The first through ball, I think it was Diaz he ran away from, I remember thinking phwoar, I didn’t think he was that quick!.”

Will Darwin Nunez start for Liverpool?

Long term, yes.

Liverpool haven’t made him their biggest-ever investment to have him sitting on a bench every week.

That being said, Klopp might want to gradually introduce him to Premier League football.

Against City, he brought him on in the second half and started with Roberto Firmino through the middle.

Klopp is a massive fan of the Brazilian and it is possible that Firmino will get the nod once again, but it’s only delaying the inevitable.

Nunez will spend the majority of this season as Liverpool’s focal point through the middle, even if it isn’t straight away.
