Everton fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after hearing what The Athletic have been reporting about Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
The Athletic‘s Everton correspondent Greg O’Keeffe tweeted yesterday that the £25 million man would miss the rest of the season, following a freak injury.
Gbamin sustained the injury at Finch Farm.
Astonishingly, it has nothing to do with his quadricep and Achilles problems that have plagued his time at Everton so far.
Speaking after Monday’s 0-0 draw with Brighton, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the injury was sustained after Lucas Digne fell on Gbamin in training.
The 25-year-old has needed surgery – and months of consequential rehab – on those aforementioned issues since arriving from Mainz 05 in the summer of 2019.
Sadly, the 12-cap Ivory Coast international has only managed to make three appearances for the club in almost two years, due to injuries.
The Athletic claim that there is shock and sadness behind the scenes at Everton after Gbamin’s latest injury occurred.
It is genuinely heartbreaking news for the Everton No.25, who has only just managed to get himself back to full fitness.
We can’t imagine what’s going through his head right now.
