Michael Owen has heaped praise on Luis Diaz, who he described being ‘brave as a lion’, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former striker loved the fact that Diaz ‘stuck his head where it hurt’ during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday.

Diaz was running through on goal, with the ball hanging in the air and Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez running at him.

Rather than ducking away, Diaz put his head into the path of Sanchez, got taken out in a reckless manner, but most importantly, he managed to put the ball into the back of the net.

Owen loved that type of bravery from the 25-year-old, who he stated has ‘hit the ground running’ under Jurgen Klopp.

“Oh, I do love this,” said Owen. “I love people who are prepared to go through risk or pain.

“If there is a goal at the end of it, you stick your head where it hurts and he did that. Brave as a lion. Absolutely loved it.

“He takes it early as well. If he waits a little, then the goalkeeper probably blocks it.

“He just looks like a Liverpool player. Those out to in runs. He has hit the ground running in this red shirt.”

Diaz has made such an impact at Liverpool that Klopp can afford to keep Diogo Jota on the bench.

Added with that, Roberto Firmino, who has been injured in recent weeks, hasn’t been much of a miss.

This Liverpool side has some serious firepower now and it wants to create history this season.

Klopp and his players have already added one trophy to their cabinet this term, but they are hopeful of adding multiple by the time the final ball is kicked.
