It looks like Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka might be set to declare for England at international level.
The 19-year-old winger has been called up to the latest Three Lions’ squad by manager Gareth Southgate.
It’s been a good start to the season for the Arsenal gem, who set up his side’s goal in the Community Shield win over Liverpool back in August.
Having bagged 11 assists during a fine breakthrough season for the Gunners last term, you could even argue this call-up is overdue.
The London-born starlet is also eligible to represent Nigeria, telling Sky Sports News earlier this summer: “I’m happy to have represented England at youth level but I’m also proud of my Nigerian heritage from my parents.”
And some Nigerian Gooners aren’t delighted with the news that he’s been included in Southgate’s latest squad.
Here’s how they reacted to the news on Twitter:
Until he actually makes a senior appearance for England, he isn’t tied to any country.
And it must be said that it’s not a foregone conclusion that he’s going to earn his first cap for the international break next week, given that the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho are in this squad.
Saka is an excellent young winger, but the same applies to Sterling and Sancho who are simply a level above him right now.
