Gary Lineker took to Twitter last night in frustrated fashion, following an incident in the fifth minute of West Brom’s 3-0 win over Southampton.

Mbaye Diagne thought he had given the Baggies an early lead after tapping Darnell Furlong’s effort in, only for it to be ruled out for offside by the linesman.

After taking a look, VAR found no reason to overturn the on-field decision, despite the fact Diagne actually appeared onside.

It was Kyle Bartley who was offside. However, he made no attempt to play the ball, nor was he obstructing Fraser Forster’s line of vision, so the goal should’ve stood.

After seeing the goal chalked off, Lineker tweeted the following.

It really is becoming so, so tiresome.

VAR was brought in to lesser debate surrounding decisions in the Premier League.

However, it’s only caused more confusion and uncertainly than human error ever did.

If we’re still not able to find the right decision after staring at an incident for minutes, then perhaps VAR isn’t fit for purpose.

Or, perhaps those using VAR aren’t fit to use it.

We never see such controversy on a weekly basis in the Bundesliga, or La Liga, so perhaps it’s the people using the technology in England who are the problem.

Either way, it’s not good enough in the Premier League, and something needs to change.
