Derby County fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Wayne Rooney is interested in the Newcastle United job.
There aren’t many clubs, from a financial perspective, that have such stark differences currently than Derby and Newcastle.
One is the richest club in the footballing world, whilst the other was recently put into administration, is in financial woe and was also deducted points – and more could come.
The man at the front of the ship is England’s all-time leading goalscorer, who is in his first gig in management and what a welcome it has been for him.
But the Chronicle do report that Rooney is keen on the Newcastle gig, even though Steve Bruce is still in charge, although it does seem as though he is nearing an end at St James’ Park.
Derby fans simply aren’t having these rumours and they can’t see their manager leaving, nor the newly cash-rich Newcastle pulling him towards their direction.
Whatever people think of Rooney, one thing is for sure, he is a committed individual and it would be a surprise if he left the Rams in their current state.
The Manchester United legend, as proven by his performances out on the pitch, has always been a fighter and he will want to try and overcome the impossible job in the East Midlands, by helping Derby survive.
And if he does that, then his stock will go through the roof, because even Pep Guardiola would struggle in the situation Rooney finds himself in.
