Real Madrid fans have reacted on Twitter after Pat Nevin claimed that he would prefer Aston Villa’s John McGinn over Luka Modric.
The former Scotland international told A View from the Terrace that he would pick Villa’s midfield engine ‘all day along’ ahead of the Croatia and Madrid star.
England recently beat Modric’s Croatia 1-0 at Euro 2020, with Kalvin Phillips dominating the middle of the park.
But Nevin’s suggestion that he prefers having McGinn in midfield over the Ballon d’Or winner, at this moment in time, has sparked quite the reaction from the Real Madrid supporters.
Given what Modric has achieved in his career compared to the tough-tackling Scotsman, they haven’t taken too kindly to Nevin’s comments.
There’s no doubt that McGinn’s career is on the rise, and the kid that used to boss St Mirren’s midfield, has come a long way in his career.
But it’s going to take a hell of a lot for the boyhood Celtic fan to match Modric’s feat as a footballer, who still has stardust at his feet, even at the age of 35.
Both Scotland and Croatia have started Euro 2020 with a defeat, but Nevin will get his wish of seeing how the Villa man performs against the trophy-laden player next Tuesday.
That’s when McGinn’s side will host the 2018 World Cup semi-finalists at Hampden – but, of course, if thing go against Steve Clarke’s men then they might be out of the tournament by the time that game kicks off.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Real Madrid fans reacting to Nevin’s comments about McGinn:
