Liverpool fans don’t appear to be best pleased with Jurgen Klopp’s comments on Dejan Lovren at his latest press conference, which was covered by the Liverpool Echo.
Lovren has been linked with an exit from Liverpool recently, with Goal suggesting that he could move on in the summer.
But Klopp’s comments seem to hint that Lovren will be kept around as he remains important.
“He’s made 15 appearances (this season) and he was a couple of times injured,” Klopp said.
“Dejan played some outstanding games for us. He is a very important part of the squad. We have four centre-halves, and needed all four always. Played the Champions League final and lot of big games. Very reliable player.”
The news from Klopp’s press conference does not appear to have gone down well at with Liverpool supporters, who feel that Lovren’s time at the club should be coming to an end now.
Lovren has not entirely convinced when he has been called into Liverpool’s first-team this season, but the Reds could be left short at the back if he does leave.
Liverpool would surely need to bring in another defender to cover for the loss of Lovren, but Klopp appears to have a limited budget to work with this summer.
Lovren could well be in Liverpool’s squad tomorrow, when they take on Arsenal.
