Some Liverpool supporters on Twitter are singing the praises of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Liverpool endured a difficult first 45 minutes versus Brentford at Anfield this afternoon, despite winning comforably in the end.
Fabinho headed the Reds into a slender lead just before the break but, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah missing, Jurgen Klopp needed much more from his available players.
Step forward the former Arsenal attacker.
Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled the Reds’ lead on 69 minutes, virtually making the game safe.
The 28-year-old headed home a delightful cross by Andy Robertson to make it 2-0.
Unfortunately, minutes later, Oxlade-Chamberlain had to be subbed off due to injury in a situation which pretty much epitomised his last few years at Liverpool.
Here’s how fans of the Merseyside outfit reacted to his performance on Twitter:
Devastating
When fit, the England international, who cost £40 million in 2017, is a big asset for Liverpool but injuries have undeniably held him back from being a much bigger player under the German manager.
With Klopp already missing Naby Keita to Africa Cup of Nations, and Thiago to injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked set for a big month at Anfield.
However, this is a major spanner in the works and all those affiliated with the Premier League giants will be hoping that his injury isn’t a serious one – partly because Liverpool need him available, but also because it would be devastating for him personally.
