Liverpool fans hoping to see Konrad Laimer join Jürgen Klopp at Anfield will be disappointed after Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer news.
Liverpool transfer news
Well, it was Sky Sports who claimed that Liverpool want to sign the Austria international from RB Leipzig.
A deal seemed quite straightforward to complete for the midfield maestro, as his contract expires at the end of the season, while he has also admitted to supporting the Reds before.
Laimer told Servus TV: “I generally like watching the Premier League. I’ve always been a Liverpool fan.”
However, it is now time to go back to the drawing board for Klopp and Julian Ward, as Bayern Munich beat Liverpool to the 25-year-old’s signature.
Romano believes Laimer has “finally signed his contract” with the German giants, and is set to officially join the Bavarians from July 1st when his RB Leipzig terms expire.
It comes as a blow to Liverpool, mainly due to the fact the Austrian seemed like the most realistic option to strengthen the midfield department this month due to his contract situation.
The Athletic believe Fenway Sports Group are looking to sell Liverpool, so we can’t see huge investment being made to bolster the midfield on a more expensive option until a sale has gone through.
Liverpool may have found Laimer alternative
Interestingly, the demand for a new midfielder has slightly quietened in recent days after the stunning performance of Stefan Bajcetic against Wolves.
The Spaniard played exceptionally well alongside Thiago in midfield as Liverpool recorded a 1-0 win at Molineux, and has made rapid progress since breaking into the first-team.
Of course, midfield reinforcements will still be needed, but if Bajcetic can play like that most weeks from now until the end of the season, Klopp may have able to wait until the summer before he invests in new signings.
