Manchester City academy star Sam Edozie is close to departing the Premier League champions, with the 19-year-old reportedly set to sign for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to announce that the attacker will sign a two-year deal with the German giants, with Edozie rejecting a new contract with City following a season where the teenager made just one senior appearance for the Manchester side.
Edozie featured for City in the Community Shield at the start of last season after playing regularly for the English giants in pre-season, with Pep Guardiola hailing the winger as an ‘incredible’ talent. However, the youngster was restricted to youth football for the majority of last campaign.
With the teenager’s contract set to expire at the end of this month, Edozie has taken the decision to leave City given the limited chances on offer, with Leverkusen winning the race to sign the talented attacker, who has featured for England at youth level since 2021.
Given the success of former City academy talent Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham in Germany, Leverkusen makes plenty of sense for Edozie, especially with the Bundesliga side competing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Moreover, Gerardo Seoane’s philosophy of developing youth talent plays well into Edozie’s hands, with the England youth international likely to play senior football next season if the winger impresses in his first few months with the German giants.
Edozie has made the right decision signing for Leverkusen

Germany has proven to be an excellent country for English players to develop their game, and in the case of Edozie, signing for Leverkusen is the perfect destination for the 19-year-old attacker given the environment of the club and their impressive track record of producing quality talents.
Indeed, City’s investment into the academy has proved fruitful over the past few years, yet for Edozie, leaving to sign for Leverkusen is a great decision on his part, and the winger could develop well in Germany if he hits the ground running.
