Serhou Guirassy received a ‘firm offer’ from West Ham United in January, before deciding to stay in Ligue 1 for another few months, Amiens president Bernard Joannin has told Europe1.
The Guirassy to West Ham saga is not going away.
Four months ago, with the winter window in full swing, Sky reported that David Moyes’ side were in talks to bring another rangy French striker to England to provide some much-needed competition to Sebastien Haller in attack.
Guirassy, however, made the decision to snub the offer and stay on the other side of the Channel. Loyalty may be in short supply in this day and age, so the former Cologne man deserves huge credit for turning down a Premier League outfit in favour of saving Amiens from relegation.
There is only so much one man can do, however. Amiens have now been dumped into the second tier with Guirassy’s nine Ligue 1 goals counting for nothing.
According to Le10 Sport, West Ham are back in for their long-time, £18 million-rated transfer target with negotiations once again underway.
And Joannin is under no illusions that Guirassy has probably played his final game in Amiens colours.
“He had had a firm offer from West Ham in January, and asked to stay (instead),” the president says.
“I will have no problem with him (if he goes this summer). We already have English offers and things will be done.”
Le10 Sport claims that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also made contact with Guirassy. West Ham, then, will be hoping that they are not left to rue that January failure.
