Tottenham Hotspur fans are not keen on suggestions that they could make a move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The Daily Mail suggest that Spurs are keen on the Arsenal man, as they look for solutions to their right-back issues.
Jose Mourinho’s side currently have very few options there, and with Serge Aurier potentially leaving, a right-sided defender is right at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist.
Maitland-Niles apparently could be available, with Arsenal looking to raise money, and the claims are that he is on Tottenham’s radar.
But Spurs fans don’t seem to want to see the youngster signed from their North London rivals.
Maitland-Niles’ versatility could actually be useful for Spurs, as he would offer them cover at right-back and in midfield.
The 22-year-old does have his qualities, but isn’t quite the finished product right now.
He would arguably be an upgrade on Aurier, but whether he is the man required to push Tottenham into the top four remains to be seen.
There would also have to be question marks over whether Arsenal would even be prepared to deal with Spurs.
Maitland-Niles is a player with a high ceiling and if he did go on to fulfil his potential at Spurs, they could well end up strengthening Mourinho’s side.
That is surely the last thing Arsenal would want to do, and even though they are said to be willing to part ways with Maitland-Niles, it would be a shock if they allowed him to join Spurs.
