Ralf Rangnick has been speaking to the media about Jesse Lingard, after the 29-year-old remained at Manchester United despite interest from West Ham.

What’s the story?

Well, West Ham held talks with Lingard on the morning of deadline day, according to The Athletic.

Despite an intense push to sign the England international, Manchester United refused to let him join a rival for the top four.

Now, Rangnick has further explained why Lingard didn’t leave Old Trafford for the London Stadium, citing the situation with Mason Greenwood as part of the problem.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the German said: “Jesse has asked to be off until Monday to clear his mind. He didn’t leave because we had problem with Mason Greenwood, and also because of the club not finding agreement with another club.”

You can certainly understand why Lingard needs some time to clear his mind, as things must be pretty bleak for him right now.

The Warrington-born attacker has played just 88 minutes of Premier League action this season, under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick.

For whatever reason, Lingard isn’t being used, despite the fact he’s actually scored two goals in those 88 minutes.

Jesse Lingard to West Ham could happen soon

In our view, Lingard to West Ham is one of the most likely deals we can think of this summer.

The Manchester United No.14 finds himself out of contract in June, so clubs can pinch him from the Red Devils for nothing.

That makes their decision to keep him all the more baffling.

The Athletic added that Newcastle were also interested in Lingard.

However, if the Magpies are relegated, then surely West Ham is the likeliest destination for the man who shone on loan in east London last year.

Lingard would be returning to familiar surroundings, where he knows he can thrive, and he is likely to get a raise given the lack of a transfer fee.

When June rolls around, keep your eye on Lingard’s situation.
