It looks like Tottenham Hotspur are going to beat Newcastle United to the appointment of Luis Campos.
L’Equipe reported on Tuesday that Lille’s sporting director had turned down a massive offer from the Magpies.
Instead, the French publication claim that Tottenham will be hiring the veteran transfer guru to oversee the buying and selling of players for the foreseeable future.
Here’s how Newcastle fans responded on Twitter to the development.
Campos has long-standing ties with Spurs boss and fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho, whom he worked alongside at Real Madrid.
If it’s true that he turned down Newcastle, it’s actually a good thing; not because Campos isn’t very talented at his job, but because if the St James’s Park club are looking to hire people like that, it’s probably because the takeover is going to happen.
The Premier League hasn’t sanctioned the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s £300 million takeover of the club as of yet.
But if their people had made an offer to Campos then it indicates a strong belief that the deal will go ahead.
