Gary Lineker has heralded Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance for Liverpool in tonight’s 4-2 win away to Manchester United.
Liverpool picked up a massive three points in the context of finishing in the Champions League places.
A brace from Roberto Firmino, along with goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, saw the Reds beat their rivals at Old Trafford and, more importantly, move four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Liverpool, who also have a game in hand, owe a lot to their right-back Alexander Arnold.
The 22-year-old was in sensational form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, whipping in the cross which led to Firmino heading the visitors ahead and then played a big role in the Brazilian’s second shortly after the break.
There remains some doubt over whether Alexander-Arnold will be in the England squad for Euro 2020 this summer, having missed Gareth Southgate’s last squad.
But Lineker has written on Twitter that it ‘seems ridiculous’ that he won’t be now, claiming he was the game’s stand-out player tonight.
There have been one or two question marks over his defending, because nobody in their right mind would doubt Alexander-Arnold as an attacking force.
But both sides of his game were equally excellent tonight and with Southgate watching on, Lineker is right in saying that it seems unthinkable for a talent like this to be left behind this summer.
