Jamie Redknapp has defended Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post Preview podcast.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder believes that the Arsenal striker is just going through a bad spell at the moment.

The Sky Sports pundit has added that he does not think that the Gabon international striker has lost his focus after signing a new contract.

As reported by Sky Sports in September, the 31-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract with the Gunners.

Aubameyang has scored one goal and provided one assist in six Premier League matches and has scored one goal in 29 minutes in the Europa League so far this season, according to WhoScored.

During the 2019-20 campaign, the striker scored 22 goals and gave three assists in the league and scored three goals in the Europa League for Arsenal, according to WhoScored.

Redknapp said about Aubameyang on Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post Preview podcast: “He has not perhaps hit the heights of last season, and then there’s all the focus that he has signed a new contract, has he got comfortable? Of course, he hasn’t. He is just having a little bit of a run.”

Staying positive

Every striker goes through a bad spell, and Aubameyang is going through one of those.

The former Borussia Dortmund star is still working hard and contributing to the team, and it is only a matter of time before he starts banging in the goals for fun like he normally does.
