Former Tottenham stars Ryan Mason and Graham Roberts took to Twitter after an incident involving Erik Lamela in Spurs’ game against Burnley last night.

Jose Mourinho’s men were made to work extremely hard by the Clarets. Burnley could have easily gone ahead but a fantastic clearance off the line by Harry Kane saved the day.

A few moments later, the Englishman got his head on the ball again, but this time at the other end of the pitch. Kane’s header was diverted into goal by Son Heung-min and that was enough for Spurs to snatch all three points.

Lamela came on in the second half and had a decent impact on the game. The Argentine made the headlines after a tackle on Dwight McNeil which some felt deserved a sending off.

Ryan Mason took twitter to have his say about the incident and he was backed by former Spurs defender Graham Roberts who was adamant that it was a good tackle by Lamela.

Lamela’s studs were up as he slid in to get the ball. The Argentine definitely caught McNeil, but that was in his follow-through after he got the ball. A red card would have been very harsh, but we have seen them given in the past.

A man down at that stage of the game could well have cost Spurs the win. Burnley looked threatening in the box, and they would have gone all out to get the three points if they were playing against 10 men.

Mason and Roberts received a ton of support from Spurs supporters for their tweets. Lamela himself responded to the tweets about his tackle, and he too was adamant that it was nothing close to a foul, let alone a red card.
