Odsonne Edouard responds to question about his Celtic future.
Odsonne Edouard has told The Scottish Sun that he hasn’t yet spoken to Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers about his long-term future at Parkhead.
Edouard impressed in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Greenock Morton in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, coming on at half time and grabbing a third goal for the Hoops late on.
It was the 20-year-old’s seventh goal in 10 starts for Celtic since joining Rodgers’s side on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The prospect of a permanent deal has seemed unlikely since The Daily Mail reported that Edouard would fetch an eye-watering £7 million.
But the player himself insists that he isn’t thinking about his future at Parkhead.
He told The Scottish Sun: “I’m just playing the season right now. I’m not thinking about what will happen next season.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Celtic. It’s a wonderful club with a fantastic manager and the greatest supporters.We’ll see what happens but I’m happy to wait until the summer.
“I want to concentrate on my football to help Celtic in the best way I can. It’s not my decision. I’ve not spoken to the manager about it yet as the season has not yet finished.”
If he’s going to cost £7 million, Edouard has a lot more to do to convince Rodgers of a permanent deal.
In all likelyhood, Celtic will have to replace Moussa Dembele this summer and as promising as Edouard has been, there are still question marks over his capacity to be a regular goalscorer and Rodgers would be taking a huge risk not only on the transfer fee, but if he indicates that Edouard is his compatriot’s replacement.
