The Celtic striker was linked with a move to Napoli this week.

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has brushed off transfer speculation linking him with a move to Napoli, The Daily Mail report.

The paper had earlier claimed that Napoli are showing serious interest in the player having tracked his progress over the last couple of years.

A fee of £30m was quoted, with Celtic said to be braced for bids in the upcoming January transfer window.

Edouard though is not interested at all in entertaining the notion of leaving Celtic.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, he explained: “I’ve got a season to play, I’ve got a long contract, I’m really happy with the way I’m playing, the set-up here and I’m really happy to play with my friends for the team.

“The main thing at the moment is I’m a Celtic player and I’m happy to be a Celtic player.

“I’ve still got a lot to prove with Celtic, as part of the Celtic team. There’s a long season ahead of us, we need to concentrate on that. The key is I’ve got to prove myself here first.”

Proving himself

Clearly Edouard is intent on at least seeing the season out with Celtic. By pledging to further prove himself in the Hoops, he’s telling supporters he’s ready to score a barrel load more goals.

Having netted 23 last term, it could be a major ambition for him to better that tally this season. Already scoring six goals in 2019/20, he’s well on his way to doing that.

With a massive UEFA Europa League group stage on the horizon, it’s important that Edouard is as focused as he is on the immediate challenges at hand, rather than on what his long-term future might have in store.

If he can shine on the continent, including against French club Rennes this Thursday, his reputation will only increase, benefiting both his club and the player.
