Jamie Redknapp has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7pm, May 1, 2022) that Martin Odegaard is the perfect captain for Arsenal.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder made the comments about Odegaard after watching the attacking midfielder in action for Arsenal against West Ham United at London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side won the London derby to enhance their chances of finishing in the Premier League top four this season.
Jamie Redknapp on Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard
Redknapp said about Odegaard on Sky Sports Premier League (7pm, May 1, 2022): “By bringing him into the team, they might just have stumbled across a problem that has caused Arsenal for a few years – the captaincy.
“Xhaka was captain for a while, didn’t really work, Aubameyang, then they gave it to Lacazette. It was almost like no one wanted to be.
“But by giving it to Odegaard, it feels right for me. He might not be the most vocal, but when you watch him play, he organises people, he is a lovely footballer to watch, he is so intelligent. Captaincy was a major problem for Arsenal.”

Important player
In our opinion, Odegaard is an important player for Arsenal and has been playing well for the Gunners this season.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has made 28 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
Odegaard has scored six goals and given four assists in those games.
The Norway international has grown as a player at Arsenal, who are a better team with him in it.
Arsenal are in a great position to finish in the Premier League top four this season.
And, in our view, for that to happen, Odegaard has to be on top of his game.
