The Swansea City star has been heavily linked with a move to Everton, but Liverpool have entered the race, according to the bookies.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed the Reds as shock 8/1 outsiders in the race to sign Swans midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has been heavily linked with a move to Everton.

The Icelandic ace has proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s finest central midfielders since joining Swansea in 2012, and his performances last season saw him become one of the most sought-after talents in England.

The 27-year-old scored nine goals and chipped in with 13 assists in 38 Premier League outings, and that form led to him being a primary transfer target for Ronald Koeman, with the Mirror reporting that the Toffees are close to securing his signature.

It perhaps comes as somewhat of a surprise then to to see Liverpool listed as 8/1 second favourites with SkyBET to sign Sigurdsson this summer.

Everton are still strong favourites at 1/10, but following Liverpool’s seemingly failed move for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, they could well turn their attention to the Swansea man.

And if Jürgen Klopp somehow manages to bring the Iceland international to Anfield, usurping Liverpool’s fierce rivals in the process, it could turn out to be a signing that has real significance, as far as the outcome of the Premier League is concerned.
