Watford are still favourites to sign the Derby County star, but Everton are not too far behind, according to the bookies.

Popular bookmakers BETVICTOR have installed the Toffees as the second favourites behind the Hornets in the race to sign Rams midfielder Will Hughes.

Watford are preparing a £5 million bid for the 22-year-old, as reported right here on HITC Sport just four days ago, as Marco Silva looks to make sweeping changes at Vicarage Road.

The Derby midfielder was considered as one of England’s hottest prospects just a couple of years ago, but his stock within the game seems to have fallen, considering the fact that Liverpool were prepared to pay £15 million to secure his services over two years ago, according to the Mirror.

He is still at an age, however, where he can improve, and is by no means a lost cause. The talented youngster’s underwhelming campaign with the Rams last term could easily prove to be a one off, and given the opportunity of working with a top class tactician, he could finally realise his true potential.

And BETVICTOR believe there is a chance that Hughes could be plying his trade at Goodison Park next term, making Everton 4/1 second favourites to sign him, although Watford still lead the race at just 6/4.

With Gareth Barry’s days at the highest level nearing an end, the addition of a left-footed midfielder to help balance the Blues’ midfield will surely feature highly on Ronald Koeman’s agenda.

And for the price being quoted at just £5 million, Everton could bag themselves a real coup, if they manage to bring Hughes to Goodison Park this summer.
