The Bournemouth striker would be a superb signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed Wolves as the new surprise favourites in the race to sign Cherries hitman and former player Benik Afobe.

The 24-year-old spent one year at Molineux, before moving to the Vitality Stadium in January 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, but has failed to establish himself on the south coast, scoring just 10 league goals for Eddie Howe’s side.

And he is expected to receive even less game-time next season, what with the recent arrival of Jermain Defoe, and he might just be looking for a move away from Bournemouth, just 18 months after joining them.

SkyBET certainly believe that he could be plying his trade away from the Vitality Stadium next season, and make Wolves 9/4 favourites to sign him.

A move back to the Midlands club would be perceived by many as a step backwards for Afobe, but at the age of 24, regular first-team football will be of paramount importance to his development.

The former Arsenal man enjoyed an extremely successful spell during his time with the Black Country outfit, scoring 22 goals in 46 league outings for Wolves.

And a return back to the Molineux could very well help bring out the best in him once again, and in turn, help turn Wolves into genuine contenders for a place inside the play-off spots.
