Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed Villa as the new favourites ahead of the Rams in the race to sign Clarets winger George Boyd.

The 31-year-old is out of contract with Burnley this summer, and has recently rejected a new one-year deal to remain at Turf Moor, leaving the window open for the likes of Villa and Derby to make an approach.

The former Hull City man joined the Clarets in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of Sean Dyche’s most important players, making 123 appearances in the process.

With his contract due to expire in just a couple of weeks, however, it looks as though his time in Lancashire has come to an end.

And SkyBET have made Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa 6/4 favourites to sign Boyd, ahead of Derby County at 4/1.

Bruce actually tried to bring the Burnley man to Villa Park in January, but subsequently failed after he chose to remain at Turf Moor.

With his 100 per cent commitment and expert delivery, he would represent a fantastic signing for whichever clubs manages to obtain his signature, and a change of scenery for the Scotland international may very well help him improve even further still.

His wealth of experience of playing in both the Championship and the Premier League would be a huge asset to both Villa and Derby, and both clubs will be desperate to sign him this summer.
