The Everton man would be a useful addition to the Sunderland squad this summer.

Popular bookmakers SkyBET have installed the Black Cats as the new favourites in the race to sign Toffees winger Aiden McGeady.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a successful spell in the Championship with Preston North-End last season, scoring eight goals and chipping in with nine assists in 34 league outings.

And the Lancashire outfit were leading the race to sign the Republic of Ireland international, according to the bookies, as recently as yesterday.

SkyBET released updated odds today, however, and now list Sunderland as the 7/4 favourites to obtain McGeady’s signature, ahead of Middlesbrough at 3/1, with Preston drifting out to 5’s.

The Black Cats were listed as long as 7/1 earlier this week.

The Wearsiders endured a desperately disappointing Premier League campaign last term – one that eventually culminated in their relegation to the Championship, and a main contributing factor behind their woeful form was their lack of creativity in the final third.

The addition of the Everton winger would certainly help them improve in that area, and with his contract due to expire in 12 months, the Black Cats could secure themselves a real bargain, if they manage to bring him to the Stadium of Light this summer.
