The Queens Park Rangers striker is now as low as 3-1 to join West Ham, although the Magpies remain favourites.

Newcastle United target Charlie Austin’s odds of joining West Ham United have been slashed in just a number of hours, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Indeed, Ladbrokes have informed HITC Sport that a number of big bets have been placed on the QPR front man joining the Hammers – with some even reaching several figures.

According to the London Evening Standard among others, Austin has been a summer-long target for Newcastle, with West Ham also joining the race for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Chelsea and Southampton have also been mooted but Ladbrokes report a flurry of activity on the QPR man joining West Ham, forcing them to shorten odds very quickly from 6-1 to 3-1.

Austin recently appeared to express his discontent at the rumours linking him with a summer move away from QPR on Twitter.

The speculation, however, has not desisted – and West Ham are now just behind Chelsea in the running, although Newcastle remain the favourites.

The Ladbrokes odds list reads as follows:

Newcastle 6/4

Chelsea 2/1

West Ham 3/1

Southampton 6/1

Liverpool 10/1

Bournemouth 14/1

To stay with QPR 16/1

Aston Villa 16/1

Tottenham 16/1
