Middlesbrough will be looking to strengthen in January.
Popular bookmakers BETVICTOR have listed Middlesbrough as joint third favourites at 5/1 in the race to sign Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The Iceland international has been in sensational form for the Swans this season, and it doesn’t bear thinking about what kind of predicament they would have been in without him.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson in action
The 27-year-old has scored five goals and chipped in with six assists in 20 Premier League appearances for his club so far this term.
And with Middlesbrough on the look out for players who can bring them more goals, and a creative threat from midfield, Sigurdsson would seemingly be the ideal candidate.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson
BETVICTOR list two clubs ahead of the Teesside’s in the race to sign the Swansea man, however, with Everton the favourites at 3/1, followed by West Ham United at 4/1.
With Swansea deeply embroiled in a relegation battle though, they will surely fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their talisman, and with his contract at the Liberty Stadium not due to expire until 2020, they still hold all the cards.
Much will depend on how important new manager Paul Clement perceives the Icelandic play-maker to be to his plans.
