Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that he found it very odd that Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin was used down the wing last night.
With England looking for a goal against Denmark, Gareth Southgate turned to the in-form Everton man as he searched for an equaliser.
However, rather than partnering him with Harry Kane up top, Calvert-Lewin was used off the left flank.
And Sutton thought that the Everton man was rather wasted as he wasn’t deployed in his natural position.
“It’s an odd choice from Gareth Southgate to play Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the left,” Sutton said.
“Is he best suited to being out there? Is he a regular there for his club? He is not.”
Sutton’s decision to play Calvert-Lewin out wide was one of a number of recent choices that Southgate has faced criticism for.

The England boss is starting to come under pressure, with the Three Lions’ failing to impress of late.
Calvert-Lewin will surely feel that the latest international break was a success, though.
The Everton star won his first three caps for his country and scored on his debut, as he continued his fine form over the early part of the campaign.
