According to Fabrizio Romano, Frank Lampard is set to replace Rafa Benitez at Everton with just days remaining until Monday’s transfer deadline.

There won’t be much time to do business, although if the Daily Mail are to be trusted, there’s a move in the pipeline which now looks like it could happen.

What’s the story?

Well, the Daily Mail believe Everton want to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea before the deadline.

It is said that the Toffees are desperate to sign a new midfielder following injuries to Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph.

So far this season, Loftus-Cheek has only started seven Premier League games, as the 26-year-old often finds himself rotated with other options by Thomas Tuchel.

The Daily Mail add that the German wants to keep the England international at Stamford Bridge.

However – in our view at least – we feel Lampard’s imminent arrival at Goodison Park could sway things in Everton’s favour.

As you will know, Lampard spent time with Loftus-Cheek while managing Chelsea, and he seems to hold the midfielder in high regard.

As quoted by Chelsea’s official website, the 43-year-old described the Cobham Academy graduate as an “obvious talent” as well as a “strong” player.

Those comments came amid a tough time for Loftus-Cheek at Stamford Bridge, and Lampard was keen to support him through the dark times.

As a result of injury issues – as well as a loan to Fulham – the Chelsea No.12 only made ten appearances under Lampard.

Nevertheless, it seems they have a strong relationship, so don’t be surprised to see Loftus-Cheek join Everton before Monday’s deadline.
