Speaking on the BBC’s coverage of England vs Germany (29/6/21 5PM), Rio Ferdinand has been waxing-lyrical about West Ham’s Declan Rice.
As we all know by now, England beat Germany on Tuesday, and Rice played a key part in that, putting in an incredibly mature performance in the Round of 16 tie.
Indeed, despite the fact he picked up a yellow card early on, Rice managed the game brilliantly, stopping any semblance of a Germany attack while managing to stay out of any further trouble.
Ferdinand was certainly impressed by what he saw from Rice.
What’s been said?
The former Manchester United man was full of praise for Rice.
“Listen, he’s made of the right stuff. Obvious he’s got qualities as a footballer, he’s a top footballer. For someone so young and inexperienced he showed good character, he showed concentration to stay in the game and not risk anything in terms of tackles. Listen, Jordan Henderson is the captain of Liverpool, a Champions League winner, a Premier League winner. He’s being kept out of this team by him and Phillips. They’re doing a tremendous job shielding the back three and Declan Rice has done a tremendous job so far in this tournament,” Ferdinand said.

Spot on
Ferdinand’s summary of Rice is spot on.
The midfielder is so talented and so mature, and while he may still have had his doubters before the Germany game, he’s surely answered any questions with that performance.
West Ham played a massive part in England’s international success back in 1966, and it seems as though Rice could continue flying the flag for the Hammers at Euro 2020.
