Ray Parlour has claimed that Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips securing a transfer to West Ham United is the ‘obvious choice’ if Declan Rice makes his reported move to Arsenal.

West Ham might just have ‘£100 million+’ to spend from the Declan Rice sale, and once he heads for the exit door, they are going to need a replacement or two.

Kalvin Phillips, after securing a £42 million move to Manchester City last summer (Sky Sports), has struggled for game time and Parlour doesn’t think he will get ahead of Rodri any time soon, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (13/06/23 at 7:15 am).

Jack Grealish is perhaps the perfect example of how you need 12 months or a season to bed in and get used to what Pep Guardiola wants.

After winning the Treble, albeit he played a small part, why would Phillips want to go anywhere else?

But if other clubs come knocking, then you never know how someone will answer, as Parlour expressed his ‘surprise’ at no one being linked with Phillips.

“I am surprised Phillips isn’t being linked with anybody yet,” said Parlour. “Rodri is such an important player and is he going to get ahead of Rodri?

“Declan Rice, if he left, then for Kalvin Phillips, West Ham is the obvious choice, for me.”

Phillips should stay at Manchester City

Yes, the 27-year-old only played 593 minutes across all competitions this season, but he should stay at Manchester City this summer, even if others come knocking.

Plus, things will only get better for the hard-hitting midfielder, as others have proven after spending one year at the club.
